Taken from the motion picture “Love Jones,” A Blues for Nina is an exploration of tone, mood and emotion as it contrasts and reflects off its physical environment. The cool calm hues of a 5am sunrise highlighted Nina’s body, while the color of her emotional state offsets that tranquility as she silently analyzes the frustrating relationship with her partner, Darious. The naming of this piece is based on a poem which Darious wrote for Nina defining his deep infatuation with her beauty. Her surroundings calmly yet violently awaken her body and mind as her emotional state battles between lust and love, happiness, and melancholy that result in a chorus of blues playing off of and intimately interacting with one another.
