My research has allowed me the opportunity to travel throughout the world to engage with various scholars, artists and art institutions who create dynamic works of art and artistic projects reflecting a number of diverse topics. Interview with Françoise Vergès at the Louvre Museum

Louvre December 20, 2017

While at the Louvre Museum, I had a cup of tea with scholar François Vergès, as she discussed how growing up on the Réunion Islands, off the coast of Madagascar,  shaped the way she looks at the world as well as guiding her research interests to uncover the many stories hidden within stories. These foundational experiences aided in the creation of her museum intervention titled “The Slave at the Louvre: An Invisible Humanity”, where, through the Louvre’s art collection, she engages the relationship between consumption and representation to show how slavery changed the social geography of France. We additionally discussed how contextualizing paintings such as Théodore Géricault’s, “The Raft of Medusa” helps give further insight into representations of Africans in works of art, as well as the illegal slave trade and French colonization.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
